Taleya Mayberry and Kelsee Grovey were named to the All-Conference USA First Team and All-Freshman Team, respectively, as announced today by the league office. Mayberry is just the fifth Tulsa honoree to be named to the first team and the second player to receive the honor twice, while Grovey is only the second Hurricane player to be named to the All-Freshman squad as Mayberry was tabbed to the team in 2010.
Mayberry, a senior guard from Tulsa, Okla., has started in 28 games this season, posts a team-leading 17.8 points per game, and has team-highs of 104 assists and 69 steals. She also pulls down 4.0 rebounds per game and has four blocks. Mayberry ranks fourth in scoring and free-throw percentage (.795), sixth in steals, seventh in assists, eighth in minutes played (33.4), and 14th in three-point field goals made (38) in C-USA, and is 50th in points per game, 92nd in steals per game and 104th in free throw percentage in the nation. She has scored in double figures 25 times, and has led TU in scoring 19 times, steals nine times and blocks three times this season.
A guard from Shawnee, Okla., Grovey has started in 25 of 27 games as a true freshman. She ranks second on the team in scoring with 10.3 points per game and assists with 57, and is third in steals with 43. Grovey ranks seventh in minutes played (33.9), eighth in three-point field goals made (47) and three-point field goal percentage (.333), and 23rd in scoring among all league players, and is first in free throw percentage, fourth in scoring and steals, and fifth in assists and three-point field goal percentage among the league's freshmen. She has scored in double figures 15 times this season, and has led TU in scoring and assists six times, steals eight times, blocked shots three times and rebounding once this year.
