A Muldrow man is expected to appear before a judge this week on accusations of physical and sexual abuse on a child.
Officers with the Muldrow Police Department arrested Nathan Byrd earlier this month and booked him into the Sequoyah County Jail. He faces criminal charges for an incident involving a 9-month-old relative he was watching over.
An initial report from the MPD states that a woman dropped the child off with Byrd and when she picked her up, she noticed blood in her diaper. She took the child to a medical facility where it was determined that she had been sexually abused.
Officials with the MPD told KTUL that the child was transported to a children's hospital and a final report described physical and sexual abused. Medical professionals reported the child had fractures to the skull, arm, leg and nine cervical fractures in her back.
Byrd was located in Muldrow and was initially arrested for child abuse. He is scheduled for arraignment this week where a Sequoyah County judge will determine if any additional charges will be presented against him.
Officials at the MPD added that the child was released from the hospital earlier this week.
