Multiple Families Displaced After Midtown Apartment Fire
The Tulsa Fire Department said three families are displaced after a midtown apartment complex went up in flames. It happened around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday near 7th and Lewis.
Firefighters evacuated the building and put out the blaze. The bulk of the damage was on the building's upper level. Officials began to investigate the cause of the fire.
Firefighters said about three other apartments on the lower level of the building experienced smoke and water damage.
Capt. Stan May said no one was hurt but that medical staff oversaw firefighters to make sure they were safe, given the high heat index.
Several residents said they helped rescue neighbors.
"I realized that the guy next door to the fire hadn't come out yet, so I smashed the window, told him he needed to come out the window," said resident Jeff Heathcott.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
