Muskogee authorities are working to piece together what caused the Warner police chief to shoot a reported suicidal man.
Officials with the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office stated the incident happened Monday afternoon when Warner Police Chief Terry Thompson and his officers were assigned to residence with a possible suicidal subject.
According to information from the MCSO, Thompson found the man with a knife and had already cut himself. Moments later he followed the subject into another area of the residence and a shot was fired.
Emergency paramedics transported the subject to an area hospital for treatment. He was reportedly shot in the thigh and will recover.
Investigators with the MCSO will now look into the events leading up to the Warner police chief shooting the man. No information has been given on the whether the police chief is on leave or not.
