Muskogee Police Shooting Deemed Justifiable
District Attorney Larry Moore has deemed an officer-involved shooting from Jan. 2 in accordance with Muskogee Police Department policy and state law.
Muskogee police officer Joe Poffel reportedly shot a man after a struggle at a traffic stop for what was believed to be a stolen vehicle.
33-year-old Thomas Estes became involved in a struggle with a backup officer, identified as Wesley Biles, and attempted to take his weapon.
It was Poffel who then shot Estes.
"We also believe that their actions were both justified and courageous in responding to the force used against them by the suspect," said the MPD in a press release.
