MUSTANG, Okla. (AP) - Several Mustang elementary students were injured during an event marking the Oklahoma land run anniversary.
Ambulance spokeswoman Lara O'Leary says about 10 people were injured at Centennial Elementary about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and five were taken to hospitals. O'Leary says three are in fair condition and two in good condition. O'Leary said she did not know their ages - but said none were critically injured.
School officials did not immediately return phone calls for comment.
Authorities told reporters the students were hurt when a carriage they were riding in overturned. Television images showed a carriage lying on its side.
Tuesday is the 125th anniversary of the land run that opened what is now Oklahoma to settlers. Numerous schools statewide hold commemorative events each year on the anniversary.
