NHRA Drag Races Coming to T-Town
Right now the Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park is pretty quiet. The wind and a few planes passing overhead are the only things disturbing the peace. But that's about to change.
The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is coming to town this weekend. Over 350 race car drivers will try to get down this quarter mile track as fast as they can. This is one of the raceways biggest events.
"These racers come from all over the country and the state." said Jimmy Boles, Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park Track Manager, "They actually race for a Wally and NHRA Championship points. They travel all over the country racing. And we're glad they're here."
The Top Fuel Funny Cars and Top Fuel Dragsters will be here and if you never been, it's quit a show. The horsepower these cars will put out is pretty darn impressive. Guys will go from zero to 200 miles per hour in five seconds. Most of the cars on the street can't go from zero to 60 in five seconds.
"You blink an eye and you miss it. All the excitement is over." said Jimmy Boles, Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park Track Manager, "The horsepower is just unbelievable. The speed these guys reach now, we'll be running 200-250 miles an hour plus."
To fully appreciate these cars you've got to get out of the stands and mingle in the pits. You can even meet the drivers.
"A lot of the drivers will even let the kids sit in the cars." said Jimmy Boles, Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park Track Manager, "You can have a great time when they warm them up in the pits. You can get right up next to them and really get the vibration and the experience. It will take your breathe away."
Remember to bring ear plugs. It can get pretty load.
Practice take place on Thursday. gates at the Osage Casino Tulsa raceway Park open at 8:00 a.m. each day. Time trails begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Eliminations resume Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
