A 78-year-old male from Nowata died following a Friday morning wreck just north of Nowata on Highway 169.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports the 78-year-old's vehicle was heading northbound on Highway 169, when it drifted into the southbound lanes for an unknown reason. A vehicle heading southbound swerved to avoid contact, but a collision was not avoided.
The southbound vehicle departed the roadway to the left and the northbound vehicle struck a guardrail.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, Melvin McGee, was identified as the deceased male involved in the collision. He was reportedly pinned for one hour and 45 minutes until he was freed by the Nowata Fire Department.
The passengers in the southbound vehicle were all uninjured.
