Authorities in Pittsburg County have taken two men into custody for their reported roles in a counterfeit money operation.
Officers with the McAlester Police Department arrested Eddie Brown and John Anderson last week. Both are expected to be charged with second degree forgery and possession of forgery instruments.
A total $10,500 in real money was removed from the residence, Sgt. Chris Morris told KTUL.
"To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time that we've had anything in McAlester or even Pittsburg County as far as somebody actually printing money here," Morris said.
Morris told KTUL that officers began receiving information on the fake bills from a McAlester store. That store had surveillance video that recorded the alleged suspects.
After further investigation detectives were able to determine where the fake bills were being printed. A search warrant for a residence was obtained last week.
Agents with Secret Service out of Muskogee and Krebs Police assisted the MPD during the search of the residence. Fake bills, printing and copying machines, computers and various other items were recovered.
During the search the officers also recovered firearms. They reportedly belonged to Brown and Anderson.
Morris added that the investigation is still open and further arrests could still be made.
