A post office in McAlester was reopened Monday after a powdery substance was discovered in some envelopes over the weekend.
Officials with the McAlester Fire Department were notified Sunday afternoon and closed the post office immediately. After an initial test, officials were not able to determine what the substance was and transported it to Oklahoma City for further testing.
KTUL learned that two people did come in contact with the substance and were decontaminated by the McAlester Fire Department. They will also be taken to the hospital for further examinations.
Hazmat crews were called on scene during the incident. Officers with the McAlester Police Department provided additional support.
More information is expected this morning regarding the follow up testing done in Oklahoma City.
