Judge Orders Bartlesville Man to Stand Trial in Grandmother's Death
A 20-year-old Bartlesville man has been ordered to stand trial on a first-degree murder charge in the beating death of his 81-year-old grandmother. Special Judge John Gerkin ruled after a preliminary hearing this week that there was sufficient evidence for Brandon Capps to stand trial. He's accused in the October 2012 death of Clara Jean Hammer. Authorities say Hammer was found dead on her living room floor with a baseball bat by her side. Authorities say her home was ransacked and her furniture was destroyed. An affidavit alleges that Capps was driving Hammer's car when he was pulled over by officers. The Examiner-Enterprise reports (http://is.gd/QKwqQt ) that arraignment is set for May 1. Capps is being held on a $1 million bond. Information from: Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise, http://www.examiner-enterprise.com Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
