Oklahoma Blood Institute Facing Blood Emergency

The Oklahoma Blood Institute has declared a Blood Emergency, with reportedly less than a one-day supply of blood available.

According to the Blood Institute, they have had over 500 fewer blood donations than expected today alone as the inclement weather has moved across the area.

An average of 600 blood donations a day are needed for the Blood Institute to sustain the supply for patients in the hospital.

The Texas Blood Institute and Arkansas Blood Institute are also facing a Blood Emergency.

Anyone who is at least 16 years of age and is not being affected by the icy conditions is encouraged by the Blood Institute to donate now. Donor centers are open in Tulsa Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
