One nonprofit organization is reminding military families about an event this weekend to help alleviate holiday stress.
Operation Homefront's Holiday Toy Drive will take place this Saturday at the Air National Guard headquarters on East Apache Street. Beginning at 11 a.m. and lasting through 1 p.m., the event is aim is to help give toys to military families in need.
"The annual toy distribution event allows Operation Homefront a chance to help alleviate some of the financial stress for our military families during the holiday season," said Carol Herrick, director of Operation Homefront Oklahoma/Arkansas.
According to their website for the event, any family with a member(s) in the military can come by the event and pick up toys for their children. Toys and gifts are limited and are on a first come, first serve basis.
Operation Homefront also wants to remind attendees that this program is for military dependent children only and identification of all children registered will be required the day of the event. It is also just for parents to come and shop, not the children.
The organization is a nonprofit formed back in February of 2002, according to their website. It was developed to support the families of deployed service members immediately following 9/11. Operation Homefront is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, and has evolved into a major nonprofit.
