ORU Baseball Drops A Tough One To Missouri State

The Golden Eagles could not hold on to a 3-1 ninth inning lead, and they fall to Missouri State 5-3 in game two of a four game series.

ORU (9-8) stranded 12 base runners in the game, but still held a two run lead before Matt Rush (0-1) gave up four runs off four hits in the ninth inning.

Kurt Giller started the game for the Golden Eagles, pitching six innings and allowing one run off eight hits with a career-high 10 strikeouts.

Cam Schiller was 2-5 with a two-run homerun in the third inning, his seventh of the season. Schiller has already tied his 61-game homerun total from last season.

Missouri State (13-6) scored only one run in the previous 17 innings before scoring four in the ninth. Luke Voit knocked in the winning run with a bases-loaded three-run double.

The Golden Eagles started the game hot, taking a 2-0 lead in the third inning after Schiller's homerun.

Missouri State answered in the fourth inning by scoring their first run of the series when Keenen Maddox hit an RBI-single to score Voit.

Bennett Pickar extended the ORU lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI-single to center that scored King.

Kevin Medrano hit an RBI-double to left field with two on to start the ninth inning rally by the Bears. Then Rush intentionally walked Spiker Helms to load the bases, setting up Voit's game winning three-run double.

The series resumes Saturday in Springfield, Missouri at 2 p.m.
