OSU Softball Drops Two In OKC

The 23rd-ranked Oklahoma State softball team suffered two losses, one to LSU 7-4 and another to Iowa 5-3, on the second day of The Preview at ASA-Hall of Fame Stadium. Freshman Shelby Davis hit .500 on the day with three walks and senior Chelsea Garcia batted .400 with two walks and reached base in every at-bat against LSU.

In the first game of the day, the LSU Tigers beat the Cowgirls 7-4. After scoring four runs in the second inning and two more in the third, the Tigers never gave up their lead. OSU scored a run in the second off an error and another in the third from an RBI-single by Tarah Ettinger.

The score was 7-2 going into the seventh after a solo shot by LSU's Kailey McCasland. The Cowgirls started a rally in the last inning, scoring two runs off a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk, but were unable to catch up to the Tigers. OSU would leave 15 runners on base.

Morgan Hawkins picked up her second loss of the season for Oklahoma State. She threw one full inning, allowed two hits for four earned runs, struck out one and walked one. Kat Espinosa took over in the second inning and threw the final six. She gave up seven hits for two earned runs, struck out six and walked four.

The second game was a rematch against Iowa, who OSU defeated in extra innings on Friday night. The Hawkeyes got on the board first from a sacrifice fly. The Cowgirls took over the lead in the next inning as they scored three runs. After loading the bases on a hit and two walks, Ettinger hit into a fielder's choice that scored one, Ari Morrison hit a single to center that scored another, and{}{}Kelsey Anchors hit a sacrifice fly to score one more.

The very next inning, Iowa hit back-to-back doubles to score a run and then Brianna Luna hit a two-run home run to left field. The Hawkeyes took the lead and never gave it back.

Simone Freeman threw all six innings for Oklahoma State. She is now 3-4 after allowing six hits for five earned runs, striking out six and walking four.

The Cowgirls will play the final game of The Preview tomorrow at noon at Cowgirl Stadium against LSU.
