Owasso Community Resources Helping Students Get School Supplies
It was a craft fair designed to help Owasso Community Resources raise money and school supplies. This year, OCR will provide school supplies for students in Owasso and Collinsville. It's for students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade and families that meet their requirements. They helped 500 students last year and expect at least 600 this year. They will not be turning anyone away as long as they have supplies to give.Members of the OCR board say that people don't realize how many families in this community need assistance and there are diverse levels of income throughout the community."We have great schools out here and people that make minimum wage want their kids to go to great schools too. So, we are finding more and more families that are working but not able to make ends meet," Executive Director of Owasso Community Resources, Christina Ward said.OCR provides each student with a backpack and all the supplies they need for their grade. Ward said just the supplies on the list provided by the schools can cost anywhere from $100 to $200. This year, OCR has already given supplies to 150 students.OCR also provides a food pantry, emergency utility assistance, Thanksgiving baskets, Christmas giving tree, and job link resource center. If you need assistance or would like to donate, you are asked to call 918-272-4969 or email email@example.com.
