Owasso Hoping to Land Major Employer

The Owasso city council has voted to approve $500,000 as an incentive for a company to build a massive new facility in the vicinity of Highway 75 and 66th Street North.

The initiative is still in the development phase and has been given the code name "Project Socrates" by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. Other entities involved in the project include; the Tulsa Regional chamber, INCOG, Tulsa County, and the Cherokee Nation.

The company is proposing to build a one million plus square foot building, making over a $90 million capital investment in the area. Officials say the facility would create over 1,000 new jobs.

Officials say the company has looked at 10 other sites around the country and has narrowed it down to Owasso and one other site. A decision is expected by mid December.
