Police Arrest Man on Charges of Raping Woman at Motel

Burnis Howard

Police arrested a 49-year-old man earlier this week for allegedly beating and raping a woman at an east Tulsa motel back in February.

Burnis Howard was taken into custody Tuesday morning on charges of first degree rape at the Desert Hills Motel on East 11th Street. He admitted to police that he punched and sexually abused a woman during an incident back in February.

According to his booking report by Tulsa Police, Howard and another woman were at the hotel back and at some point during the night he told the woman, "I want to have sex with you."

The woman told Howard she wasn't interested and Howard proceeded to punch her in the face and head multiple times. The victim told police that she was knocked down on her back and then pinned by Howard who continued to punch her in the head until she fell unconscious.

Police were told by the victim that she woke up two days later with "severe pain to her vaginal area," according to the police report.

A medical exam was done on the woman that indicated she had been raped and suffered multiple injuries to her head consistent to being punched.

Howard is now being held on $50,000 bond and due in court later this month.
