Ongoing Investigation at Victory Christian Center Includes Search for More Victims
Tulsa Police said it is continuing to investigate Victory Christian Center in the wake of rape allegations against a former employee. That includes searching for more victims.
Officer Jillian Roberson said searching for additional victims is standard protocol in these types of investigations.
"Anytime our investigators are assigned a case, they start to look into that," said Roberson. "If at any point, there's any indication there are possibly more victims, then that's definitely going to be something we're going to look into."
That also involves interviewing more parents and children. Roberson said parents are subject to the same mandatory child abuse reporting laws anyone else is.
20-year-old Chris Denman is facing four charges, including rape, lewd molestation, sodomy, and using a computer to facilitate a crime for his alleged involvement with two underage girls.
Five Victory employees were charged Monday with failing to report child abuse. Among the five are Victory Pastor Sharon Daughtery's son and daughter-in-law, who were youth pastors.
Additionally, another former Victory intern, Israel Shalom Castillo, is facing charges for making a lewd proposal to a child and using a computer to facilitate a sex crime. As of early Wednesday afternoon, he had not yet been booked in jail.
Channel 8 spoke with a Victory rep Wednesday, who said the church's statement from the day before remained its current statement.
"Along with working with DHS to evaluate our reporting process, Victory Christian Center will perform a full review of our policies to ensure the safety of our children and youth," the statement said.
