Now within the various Red Cross apps for smartphones is the option to change the language from English to Spanish in the app.
This means that in disaster situations, victims will quickly be able to select their first language within the app to get emergency info, as long as that language is English or Spanish.
Kurt Gwartney, senior director of communications at the Tulsa Regional American Red Cross, said that Red Cross has always been focused on preparedness, and the apps are just an extension of that.
The Red Cross apps offer quizzes to see how smart you are when it comes to being ready for a disaster and depending on how well you do, the app offers up tips and suggestions.
One new feature of the apps that Gwartney mentioned was an "I'm safe" option. When a disaster occurs, users of the app can alert friends and relative that they are safe through this option.
