Rogers Co. Sheriff Needs Volunteers for Mounted Patrol
A local sheriff's office is asking you to saddle up and volunteer. The Rogers County Sheriff's Office is starting their first mounted patrol."These community placing programs are really important. It gives the people an opportunity to get things done. There are time constraints, man power constraints, individuals that want to volunteer the time we are happy to oblige them," Rogers County Sheriff's Office Deputy and Criminal Investigator Coy Jenkins said.Jenkins said he knows Rogers County has several horse lovers that would like to step up and help in different ways."A lost child, a rescue type of situation, or sometimes we might have a crime scene where we are trying to find evidence," Jenkins said. The 20 to 30 volunteers will also be asked to help with big events, ride in parades, and be there when called on for any type of situation. You do have to have your own horse and everything that goes with them, but they will be providing the training for you and your horse. It is an auxiliary unit so you will not be armed. The sheriff's office is also adding a bike patrol unit of 10 full-time deputies and reserve deputies. This unit will be going into neighborhoods and other areas that horses can't fit. The main idea behind both of these patrols is to be able to go anywhere they are needed."It's important that we get as many resources into that area as possible, putting those horses out there where they can move and go into areas where other vehicles would not be able to is just invaluable," Jenkins said.If you are interested, the Rogers County Sheriff's Office asks you attend this recruiting meeting:When: Tuesday, September 17, 7:00 PMWhere: Claremore EXPO Center's Outdoor Covered Arena (Claremore, OK)Please R.S.V.P: Rogers County Sheriff's Deputy, Coy JenkinsEmail: email@example.comOffice Telephone: 918-923-4477
