Robbery Suspect Shot At, Hit By Security Guard
Gunfire rings out during the armed robbery of a north Tulsa credit union Wednesday.
Tulsa police spokesperson Jillian Roberson told KTUL.com the incident began just before 1:00pm at TTCU The Credit Union near Pine and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
Roberson said one armed suspect jumped over the counter and demanded money from the tellers.
The suspect then hopped back over the counter and made a run for the door. Police said the credit union's security guard followed the suspect and fired several shots at him.
Officers on scene tell KTUL.com that the suspect was hit in the hand and arm. He is expected to survive.
Investigators believe the suspect made it to a home near 1600 N. Greenwood and called paramedics. EMSA medics took him from there to the hospital.
Police confirm no one inside the bank was hurt in the incident. Officers at the bank told KTUL.com staff that the security guard is a former Tulsa police officer.
Tulsa School's Carver, Burroughs & Emerson Elementary campuses were locked down as a precaution while police swept through the area.
