All this talk about the end of the world has a lot of folks in Oklahoma contemplating history.
For the residents of Hugo, Oklahoma, the Carson and Barnes' Circus history is honored and preserved year round at Showmen's Rest, a section of a cemetery dedicated to circus entertainers. It is a major tourist attraction.
D.R. Miller was one of the circus' founders and he also founded Showmen's Rest in 1960
"He cared deeply for the circus and the people in the circus, and he felt if he established the cemetery, there would always be someone that would come by and say, 'Oh, I remember him," said his daughter, Barbara Byrd.
Mt. Olivet Cemetery is open from sun up to sun down. Carson and Barnes' circus hits the road again in March.
