Students Build Their Future By Designing Skateboards
Area middle and high school students are competing to put together the best skateboard this week.
They used tools, computers and high tech equipment to build the boards.
Tulsa Community College sponsored the event to encourage more students to pursue engineering careers.
Organizers say the competition teaches planning, creativity and problem-solving.
"They had to come in with an abstract idea of what they wanted their board to look like, and they're going to leave with the reality of what that board turned out to be," says Xan Black, coordinator of the event.
Logan McGinley was one of 22 students to participate. He says, "It gives us a better perspective of technology."
This is the second year for the event. The students worked at the Fab Lab at 7th and Lewis.
