Tulsa Police are searching for a man they said led them on a high speed chase across Tulsa County.
The man was driving a black SUV. An officer attempted to pull him over for a traffic violation near the 500 of S. Garnett.
The man sped off going west on 11th through neighborhoods, then westbound on 15th, came up Yale, and traveled north to 36th Street N. Police said the suspect eventually reached 66th Street N. and Mingo and went west on 66th, reaching a road blocked by a gate.
The chase reached speeds of about 80 mph.
At that time, the male suspect left the SUV and ran into a wooded area on foot. A female passenger remained with the vehicle.
Police found illegal narcotics inside.
Police took the woman to jail for outstanding warrants and possession.
K9 officers, a police helicopter, and Owasso officers aided in the search between 66th Street N. and 76th Street N.
The police helicopter was on its regular route when the chase began.
"Within probably one to one-and-a-half minutes of the pursuit, the helicopter was overhead. It took over calling the pursuit which allowed ground units to shut their lights off and just follow the helicopter giving us directions," Sgt. Darren Bristow said.
Tulsa Police called off the full scale search effort although the man had not been arrested before 5 a.m. Police are in communication with Owasso and county law enforcement regarding the suspect.
Police expect the man will face felony eluding and felony possession charges.
