Tahlequah Cops Continue Search for Men After Attempted Abduction

Tahlequah Police are continuing their search for two men this week that reportedly attempted to abduct a 16-year-old boy from a basketball court.

Officers were notified of the incident last weekend when the teen told them that two men approached him at the Southridge basketball courts. They are located south of the town near South Muskogee Avenue and East Willis Road.

Tahlequah Police Chief Nate King told KTUL that the boy was playing basketball when the men tried to coax him into the dark-colored SUV. He said that the vehicle had been parked nearby and the men were watching him play.

Both men reportedly drove over to the boy when he began walking away from the area. He told officers that the men asked if he wanted a ride home and continued to try and get him inside the vehicle.

King said that's when the boy pulled out his iPod, pretended to call his mother and then both men drove away.

"It was very creative, [he] was aware of his surroundings and found a way to escape," King added.

Officers said that the men were described as being in their 40s or 50s but no other details were provided. He was able to give them a partial tag number.
