Tax Day, Procrastination and Payments

Tax Season Coming to an End
Tonight you may be headed to mail off your tax paperwork. Its April 15th. If you are mailing or still doing your taxes, there are a few things to remember to keep you in good standing with Uncle Sam.

If you are a procrastinating, the post office has six self service ship and mail centers, where you can purchase stamps and weigh your envelopes.

That may help, if you plan to send them off tonight. By noon, postal workers were already busy helping customers and taxpayers. To help you, H & R Block tax center is open tonight until midnight, while customers finalize details.

If you do not have all of your paperwork, that's when you may need to file an extension. But remember, you still must send off a payment if it is due. Even you miss tonight's deadline. One day will make a difference and interest will begin accruing.

"They just have to remember that an extension is not an extension to pay, should they owe taxes. It is an extension to file," said LeAnne Gole of H & R Block.

Make sure you check collection times at your post office. Many close with the final pick up at 5 or 6 p.m. The airport postal station is the only one that stays open until Midnight.
