Fire Crews Exposed to "Bio-Hazard" During Dual House Fires

TFD Hazardous Materials team had to be called out to decontaminate the exposed firefighters.

Tulsa fire investigators are calling a pair of house fires that occurred just a block and minutes apart from each other suspicious.

Crews were called to the area of 52nd Street North and Kenosha just before 5 p.m. after neighbors called 911 reporting smoke coming from a home.

District Chief Bennie Herring told, within minutes of arriving on scene of the first fire, firefighters noticed smoke coming from the garage of a nearby home.

Herring says while crews were extinguishing the second fire, firefighters were exposed to some sort of "bio-hazard" in the garage. Haz-Mat was called out to help decontaminate the scene and firefighters that were exposed.

Herring said both homes appeared to be vacant at the time and that the fires appear to be suspicious.

The Fire Marshal's office is on scene trying to determine the exact cause of both fires.
