Three Injured After Truck Crashes Into Creek Near Sapulpa
Three people have been hospitalized following a horrific crash near Sapulpa, late Saturday Afternoon.
It happened in the 4400 block of West 81st Street just after four o'clock.
Trooper Matthew Ledbetter with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol tells KTUL.com, the driver of a silver Dodge pick-up truck was heading Eastbound on 81st when he failed to negotiate a curve near Nickel Creek. Trooper Ledbetter says the truck then left the road, went over the guardrail and airborne into the creek.
Three people were in the truck at the time, two of them children. All three were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
Nearby residents, Carlton and Brenda Walls were putting up Christmas decorations at the time of the crash. Startled by the noise, they rushed to the scene to see what happened.
Brenda tells KTUL.com, she went to the driver's aid to see if he was alright. She says the driver was awake enough to tell her that he was "okay." Walls says the two children were trapped in the truck, however passersby were able to free them.
The Walls also tell KTUL.com, this is not the first bad wreck they've seen in that spot in the road. They say drivers "tend to come down this hill very fast and they don't realize there's a curve at the end."
The Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. They tell KTUL.com, they believe speed may have been a factor. No word on what charges may or may not be filed.
