A tornado touched down in Ottawa County Sunday evening, damaging buildings in Quapaw and causing 1 death.
There were no active tornado warnings for that storm.
According to Keli Cain of the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, the death toll has been lowered from what was reported earlier. Local Fire and EMS personnel told the department that there has been 1 fatality, an unidentified male, instead of the initially reported 2 fatalities.
County Commissioner John Clarke told us that the damage was contained to an 8 block area along state highway 69-A. Emergency power has been restored to the water supply and the waste water treatment services. The rest of the town is still without power until gas utility crews can verify there are no gas leaks.
Authorities are blocking access to the affected area as first responders work.
Ottawa County Emergency Management has requested the help of the Tulsa Red Cross. They have teams on the way to assist with setting up shelters.
