An announcement will be made Monday evening after a special board meeting regarding the search for Tulsa Public School's next superintendent.
Following a special board meeting, district leaders and TPS Board members will discuss their search for a successor for Keith Ballard, current superintendent, who announced his plans to leave the position back in May.
The announcement will be made at 5 p.m. Monday in the Selman Room at the Education Service Center, located on South New Haven Avenue.
Back in May, Ballard spoke at a news conference on his decision to leave the post, which he said he only planned to stay at for three or four years.
"I guess I have accepted as I enter my 41st year in education that I am a change agent," Ballard said.
As he passes the torch onto the next leader what's the likelihood that his initiatives will carry on? New leaders often come with new agendas. He admits that's been the case in the past, but says it's really only mild concern. Ballard says he has confidence in the school board to pick the right person going forward.
But his biggest issue is with state government and its leaders, who he said he lacks confidence when it comes to school funding.
"They couldn't find a way to support children. The governor and this legislature failed Oklahoma school children," he said.
