The Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a 78-51 decision to UALR on Tuesday night at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. TU fell to 3-7 on the season, while the Trojans moved to 9-1 overall.
Taleya Mayberry had a team-leading 19 points, three assists and three steals in the contest, while Tiffani Couisnard added 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Loren McDaniel recorded a team-high of 10 rebounds and scored seven points.
The Hurricane shot 32-percent from the field, but hit just 1-of-9 three-point attempts for 11-percent. Tulsa also scored 18 points off of 32 attempts from the charity stripe, had 20 points in the paint and 10 points off turnovers.
UALR inched ahead the entire first half, earning a 16-point lead with just 19-seconds to play, but Mayberry hit a jumper and a free throw after being fouled and the Trojans took a 39-26 advantage into the lockerroom. Ten of TU's 26 points came at the free throw line, including five from Mayberry in the first frame.
The second half was nearly a mirror image of the first as UALR outscored TU, 39-25. The Trojans climbed to a 27-point high to end the contest.
UALR was led by Janette Merriex with 22 points, including seven three-pointers, and Taylor Gault with 20 points. Merriex also had a team-best nine rebounds, Gault had four steals and Taylor Ford had seven assists.
UALR had a narrow 38-37 lead in the rebounds and an 8-6 advantage in steals. The Trojans shot 47-percent from the field, 50-percent from three-point range and 62-percent from the free throw line.
Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 22nd at Grambling State. Game time is set for 1:00 pm Central at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center in Grambling, La.
