TU Women Win Third Straight
The Tulsa women's basketball team earned it's third-straight victory as the Hurricane tallied a 58-43 win over Colorado State on Saturday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. TU moved to 3-5 on the season, while CSU fell to 2-6 overall.
"I am really pleased with how our kids played, fought and competed," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said. "We got another win. We have to get to a place where we expect to win all the time, and if we continue to compete and play hard, good things are going to happen for us."
Kelsee Grovey had a team-best 16 points, while Taleya Mayberry added 11 points and a team-leading seven assists. Tiffani Couisnard pulled down 12 rebounds, and Couisnard, Ashley Clark and Grovey each had two steals.
The Hurricane shot 38-percent from the field, including a solid 48-percent in the first half, hit a 40-percent clip from three-point range and went 8-for-12 from the charity stripe. TU had 18 points in the paint, nearly half their points off turnovers (28), and had 26 points from the bench. Tulsa had a 39-28 lead in rebounds, a 10-4 advantage in steals, a 13-8 lead in assists and had just 13 turnovers to Colorado State's 18.
CSU was led by Sam Martin with 13 points, two blocks and two steals, while Alicia Nichols added 10 points, and Hayley Thompson had six rebounds. The Rams shot 32-percent from the field and were 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
There were two tied scored and five lead changes in the first half, but the Hurricane climbed to a nine-point advantage with just 23-seconds remaining and took a seven-point lead into the break (37-30).
In the second half, TU never let CSU get any closer than a five-point spread, and inched ahead to the 15-point win.
Tulsa will return to action against BYU beginning at 1:00 pm Central on Saturday, Dec. 15th in Provo, Utah.
