Fire Department Makes Decision to Increase Crews in Tulsa

Officials with the Tulsa Fire Department notified city officials that the number of crews will be increased.

TFD's Fire Chief Ray Driskell addressed Tulsa City Council during a meeting Thursday afternoon. He told the room that the number of crews in Tulsa would be boosted for the next week to ensure the department can deal with the impact of increased response time for the city's EMSA paramedic service.

During the meeting Driskell stated the increase in crews is estimated to cost between $7,000 to $9,000 per day.

Additionally, TFD is expected to respond to 91 additional emergency codes because of the changes to the EMSA response times.

But officials stated that the new expectation has been delayed for up to six months as "officials see how the new system works."
