Tulsa Man Sentenced For Brutal Christmas Day Murder
A Tulsa man will spend the next three decades of his life behind bars after he's convicted of murder.
On Monday, Paul Sopsher waived his right to a jury trial and pleaded guilty in the 2010 death of Russell Leon Smith, Jr.
A Tulsa judge amended Sopsher's murder charge from 1st degree to 2nd degree and dropped the 2nd charge of assault and battery. He is sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Sopsher was the suspect in the Christmas Day beating death. Police said Sopsher struck Smith in the head and he died from those injuries.
Sopsher turned himself in to police shortly after.
He will have credit on his sentence for time served thus far in the Tulsa County Jail.
