Tulsa Oral Surgeon At Center Of Health Scare Surrenders License
An oral surgeon whose unsanitary clinics led to the testing of thousands of patients for HIV and Hepatitis has surrendered his professional license.
Scott Harrington permanently surrendered his license to the State Board of Dentistry on Friday.
Harrington's clinics in Tulsa and Owasso have been closed since March 2013, when state officials urged about 7,000 of his current and former patients to get tested for the diseases.
Health officials say they found rusty instruments and potentially contaminated drug vials at the clinics. They say a machine designed to sterilize tools was not being used properly.
More than 4,2000 patients were tested at state clinics, but health officials determined only one individual contracted Hepatitis C at one of the clinics.
No criminal charges have been filed against Harrington. His attorney has said he is cooperating with the investigation.
