Some of Tulsa's police officers were honored Thursday morning at a ceremony recognizing their outstanding performance in the field.
Family and friends were present at the 20th annual Buckledown Awards as their uniformed loved ones were honored. The event took place at Tulsa Technology Center's Lemley Campus.
According to a release from the event, the awards recognize state law enforcement officers in the areas of traffic safety, occupant protection and impaired driving. Recognition is based on the individual officer's initiative and use of enforcement and prevention efforts, which reduce traffic, collisions and their resulting injuries.
The Oklahoma Buckledown Awards Program was created back in 1993 by TPD's Sgt. Mike Garner and Dr. Richard Coberg. Since then the awards have grown from a small local traffic recognition program to the largest one in the state.
State Farm Insurance, Saint Francis Hospital and Safe Kids Tulsa were sponsors of the event Thursday morning.
