In freezing temperatures it is common practice for many to start their car, then head inside while the car warms up.
Well now that is illegal, according to the Tulsa Police Department.
Leaving a vehicle unattended will now result in a citation and fine, according to City of Tulsa Traffic Code 37-511F.
TPD spokesperson Leland Ashley referenced the risk of the vehicle getting stolen while unattended as the reason for the citation.
The ordinance just addresses leaving the keys in the ignition while the car is running and does not address remote starts.
Ashley urges citizens to take the extra time to turn the car off when running into a convenience store and to tough out the cold when warming the car up.
