The Tulsa School Board voted to give Superintendent Keith Ballard a $25,000 incentive bonus this week.
The bonus was a part of his contract and was based on certain goals and his job evaluation.
The bonus comes as third graders prepare to take a high-stakes reading exam and after 36 schools were deemed failing under the state's A-F grading system.
Ballard has served as superintendent since 2008.
His annual salary is $174,500. He also is eligible for more than $70,000 annually in fringe benefits, according to his contract.
