Union-Jenks Kicks Off Season

The MidFirst Bank Backyard Bowl has historically been a week two battle between the best two teams in Oklahoma. But this season Union and Jenks are traveling to play a couple of Texas schools in week two.

So the Redskins and Trojans will kickoff the season against each other. The new slot on the calendar has given the Backyard Bowl a little more excitement. Not that it need any more excitement.

"I think it does a lot." Jenks Quarterback Kyle Alexander said, "Usually we go into anticipating this game after playing Bixby, but they are in our district this year. So Union is week one of OKlahoma 6A."

"Week one is going to be a little bit different preparation." Union Quarterback Hunter Atyia said, "More things might so up. Like mistakes might show up a little bit more because it's the first game. With the big atmosphere some one the players might not be used to it. But it's going to be a little bit different."

The Backyard Bowl kicks off at Chapman Stadium on the campus of the University of Tulsa Friday night at 7:05. It is our "Game of the Week." You can see a complete recap of the game on Touchdown Friday Night.
