It's day one of US Senior Open practice at Oak Tree National in Edmond, Oklahoma. Its the first major championship here at the storied course since the 2006 Senior PGA Championship. But its the first USGA event since the 1984 US Amateur. won by former OSU Cowboy Scott Verplank. Verplank along with Wille Wood, Dr. Gil Morgan and Bob Tway call Oak Tree home.
They say it's extra special to have a major in their own back yard.
"The 88 PGA was great. That was early on in our careers." Said Bob Tway, "So a lot of time as past since then, so to do it at our age now is really neat. There may not be another one come back that we get a chance to play in. So it's just great and I think it's great for Oklahoma."
"It's always unique and enjoyable to be able to play at home." Said Dr. Gil. Morgan, "First of all you know the course a little bit and then on top of that you get to sleep in your own bed. Which is rare on our tour."
Practice rounds for the US Senior Open continue through Wednesday. The first round gets underway on Thursday.
