Officers who are investigating a child that was reportedly shot in the head say the child was playing with a gun but was not shot.
Authorities originally said the Verdigris child had been shot in the head. This was around 10:30 a.m. north of the town.
Police on the scene believe child was playing with the gun and reportedly ended up pulling the trigger. Investigators are looking for a bullet at this time.
The child was hit in the head by the recoil of the gun. But received no major injuries besides a bump on the head. The child's mother heard the gun go off and called authorities.
The child was taken to an area hospital and is reportedly in good condition and has been released back to the mother. Verdigris Police will continue to investigate.
