Washington County officials are investigating the death of an inmate Wednesday.
Initial reports state that the unidentified inmate was discovered dead during the overnight hours at the Washington County Jail. It's located in Bartlesville.
A release from the sheriff's office describes that an hour before he was discovered dead the inmate was in his cell and responsive.
"Detention staff then entered the holding cell [and] found the inmate to have no pulse and appeared to not be breathing," the release described. "Shortly after EMS arrived the inmate was pronounced deceased."
At this time officials believe the inmate's death to have been caused by a medical episode. But that an investigation would continue.
The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office was also called on scene to assist.
