Women Given Life Sentences for 2012 Death of Infant

Two women were formally sentenced Monday morning after they were found guilty for the death of an infant in 2012.

A Tulsa judge sentenced Mica Shoate and Jazmin Williams to life without parole for the death of 19-month-old Zamontay Green. Jurors found them guilty in March for the crime.

Court records indicate that both women had previously pleaded not guilty for the crimes. Shoate and Williams were taking care of the infant whose mother had moved to Arkansas.

Defense attorneys told jurors that Shoate and WIlliams were first-time parents and had hopes of adopting the child.

Prosecutors argued that the women did not appear emotional during the time of the incident, citing a police officer and witnesses.

"Today is, today's justice. I'm really happy with that," said Mitchell Helberg in March. He was the TPD officer who pulled over the car that had the lifeless little boy in the back seat.
