You Can Save A Life During World Blood Donor Day
The Red Cross is taking donations Saturday for World Blood Day.
The goal is to inspire people to donate this summer by raising awareness for the year-round need for blood.
The Red Cross is hosting two Tulsa-area blood drives.
July 14 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tulsa Blood Donation Center, 10151 E. 11th St., Tulsa
July 14 from 3 - 7 p.m., University of Tulsa, Twin Towers Hall Fishbowl, 2821 E. 8th, Tulsa
"Many people say they never fully understood the importance of donating blood until they or someone they love needed it," said Tricia Quinn of the Red Cross Southwest Blood Services Region. "Donors are needed every single day to ensure an adequate blood supply is available for patients now and throughout the year."
Nationwide, the Red Cross is teaming up with supermodel Niki Taylor who almost died in a serious car accident in 2001. She is giving back after receiving 100 units of blood, and thanking those who saved her life by giving blood.
Nexcare Bandages has created a limited-edition collection of bandages surrounding this year's theme, "The Art of Giving." Anyone who donates Saturday will get one of the bandages.
