Father Dead, Son in Critical Condition in McAlester Lake Shooting
A father is dead after shooting his son four times and then pulling the gun on himself late Friday night at McAlester Lake.
The Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office says the father and son got into an argument at approximately 11:30 p.m. that led to a fist fight, which the mother had to break up.
The father, identified as Bill Gibson, 66, then reportedly grabbed a nine millimeter pistol and shot his son. The son, 34, is said to be in guarded critical condition a McAlester Regional Hospital.
When Pittsburg County deputies arrived, Gibson was sitting at a picnic table. Authorities say he told them he didn't have much longer to live and shot and killed himself.
PCSO sheriff Joel Kerns says deputy Johnny Jenkins helped save the life of the son by applying a tourniquet to help stop the bleeding.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol assisted in the PCSO in the matter.
