Former Bixby School board member urges patience during sexual assault investigation
BIXBY, Okla. (KTUL) —
His old campaign signs aren’t as fancy as the ones of today, but Tom Daniels says the job is still the same as when served on the Bixby School Board in the 1980s.
“School board members, they’re not getting paid anything, and they put in a lot of time and effort,” said Daniels.
On Thursday night, the board members spent three and a half hours behind closed doors getting an update on the sexual assault investigation involving members of the football team. In the end, they made no decisions, but even if they had almost no one showed up to hear them.
Daniels said he’s not surprised.
“Most people here in Bixby are, they don’t want to say something that’s not correct and something that might be used against the situation,” said Daniels.
He said when he was on the board all those years ago, there was another incident with the football team, and school officials dealt with it. He has faith the school board today will do the same.
“I’ve got a lot of confidence in the administration and the school board. I think they’ll do what’s right to make sure it’s corrected and taken care of,” said Daniels.
He’s spent 70 years calling Bixby home and has invested time as a city councilor, school board member and vice mayor. Now Daniels is asking people in Bixby to give the school board some time to do the job.
