Bartlesville woman charged with murder in death of 7-week-old baby
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (KTUL) —
A Bartlesville woman has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a baby boy last summer.
Tracy Nelson, 43, was charged with child abuse murder in Washington County court Tuesday. Investigators say a 7-week-old boy who was in Nelson's care was found unresponsive June 18, 2017. A medical examiner later determined that the baby had suffered blunt force trauma to his head while allegedly in Nelson's care.
Nelson told police that the baby was crying excessively, and she laid him down with a bottle, according to court documents. She claims she came back later and found him unresponsive.
Police say Nelson's spouse told investigators that Nelson "is known to be aggressive and short [tempered] with children," according to court documents. Nelson's spouse also told investigators that she had seen Nelson shove items into the child's mouth to muffle crying noises.
Nelson's spouse told police that she had previously witnessed Nelson "pinch the larynx on multiple children to make the kids stop crying," according to the documents. She also reportedly "tossed" the children when she got tired of them crying, the same witness claimed.
Court records show that Nelson will appear in court Jan. 19.
