Del City mother arrested following death of infant
DEL CITY, Okla. (KOKH) —
A Del City mother has been arrested after the death of her infant son.
The Del City Police Department confirms that Samantha Forsberg, 24, was arrested May 16 on two counts of child neglect. An arrest warrant for Forsberg was filed Wednesday. On May 13, officials were called to a child not breathing at a Del City home. Attempts to revive 1-year-old Kaleb Forsberg were unsuccessful.
Samantha reportedly told police that her boyfriend, 29-year-old Philip Howard, was watching the baby while she was at work. Howard claimed he was walking while holding the baby and tripped. The baby then hit his head on the floor.
Police determined the story did not match the child's injuries. Howard, who police say was intoxicated, was taken into the police department for further questioning. He is being held on a complaint of child neglect resulting in death. While investigating the child's death police found photograph's Forsberg had taken on her cell phone of severe bruising on the child and swelling on his leg.
The boy was found to have leg and spinal fractures. Police say that it was obvious Forsberg knew of the abuse and failed to report it.
The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office has determined his cause of death as "blunt force trauma" to the head.
