DOC investigating 'incident' at Cushing prison; 5 staff members injured
CUSHING, Okla. (KTUL) —
The Department of Corrections says it is investigating after an "incident" broke out at a prison in Cushing Tuesday night.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when an inmate at the Cimarron Correctional Facility didn't comply with orders, according to the DOC. A guard deployed pepper spray, but "several" inmates attacked the guard and other officers who came to help.
Guards were able to end the incident with more pepper spray, according to the DOC.
Five staff members were taken to the hospital and later released. The DOC says no inmates were injured.
The incident is still being investigated.
